Back to the Future

Earlier in the week my Aunt Elissa sent me some photos taken when she lived in Israel for 6 months in 1972. I took pictures during my trip here in 2006 almost of the exact view from a very similar angle. The contrast is really interesting. The first set is of The Wall and the Dome of the Rock. The second set is of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The more recent photo shows Al-Aqsa Mosque plus the area that was excavated to reveal the remaining part of the Western Wall and other archeological gems. In the picture from 1972 people are literally walking on ground level with the mosque, today, that is impossible. To stand in the same place today would put you at least 100ft below.
