A trusted bite

Travelling can make a lot of people nervous. New places, people, customs. Understandably overwhelming of course. Personally, my travel worries stem from a the fear of a bad meal. Sometimes an average meal is all you can ask for, while other times you just can't help having the meal of your life. But such extremes are rare of course. Surely I'm not the only one with this aversion to the risk of a bad meal. Countless applications, blogs, and TV spots dedicate themselves to this cause. Rather than regret a mediocre attempt at barbecue I've routed a trip 40 minutes out the way for a guaranteed taste of authenticity. If you build it they will come. The Salt Lick must have been built on this tiny fact.

Even in familiar surroundings I fear the chance of a mediocre meal. I don't mind being a creature of habit when it guarantees a good outcome. ESPECIALLY when we are talking food, people! We've all got out "go-to" favorites. It's true for me here in Tel Aviv, Israel, but even more so back home in San Diego. Not an opportunity wasted on my recent trip back to America's Finest City.
